Phonology of Adur Niesu in Liangshan, Sichuan

This study describes the segmental and suprasegmental phonology of Adur Niesu, a Loloish (or Ngwi) language spoken mainly in Liangshan, Sichuan, southwest China. Phonemically, there are 41 consonants, 10 monophthongs 1 diphthong Niesu. All syllables open. Its changes happen to vowels, featuring high vowel fricativization, lowering, centralization, assimilation fusion. It is common for Niesu be reduced continuous speech, with floating tones left. There three main types syllable reduction: complete reduction including segment tone, partial tone left, initial consonant employs as an important means lexical contrast, namely, high-level 55, mid-level 33, low-falling 21. also sandhi 44. two tonal alternation: change. Tone occurs at both word phrasal levels, conditioned by phonetic environment, while change due morphosyntactic environment. Finally, some seeming alternation result after reduction.
